Whether it’s 3am on a Monday night and you’re cramming for finals or it’s 9pm on a Friday night and you’re ready to hit the club, just remember that you’re fly as hell, girl. You got this.

This is a collaborative project I did with the wonderful Nolan over at POPMG. He knows a ton about pop music and is a genuinely nice guy! He is also very much a dude, so fellas, don’t be embarrassed about how much you love this, too.

As summer winds down, the air gets cooler and the days get shorter and the threat of school, university, and bosses become more and more of a real possibility. Don’t let the rest of it pass you by. Wake up early in the morning, sprawl out on a blanket in a field of green, and have some moments that are both infinite and fleeting. This is a mixtape about carefree love, unconstrained youth, and fond memories.

Two days ago, our little blog turned three years old. Yesterday, we hit 50,000 followers. It really was less than three months ago that we were celebrating 10,000. This post is about to sound like am overwrought Academy Awards speech, but there are thanks that need to be given. Special shout out goes to the kind folks at Tuneage for giving us our first big break, Post Punk for continuing to reblog us, and the Tumblr staff for throwing us up on Spotlight.

Finally, we’d like to thank our longtime followers and our most dedicated followers. There are some people who like our posts immediately and reblog a ton of our content on a fairly regular basis. For the obsessed music blog runner like myself, you bet your ass I look at who looks at my posts, and there are definitely some tumblr handles that pop up really frequently. We’re not going to call you out here, but from the bottoms of our hearts, thank you all for making this a reality beyond our wildest dreams. If you ever just want to chat, feel free to drop an ask on our personal tumblrs or send us an email at staff[at]sftlmusic.com. And of course, please feel free to submit! Thanks again for everything.

The sun is hanging around like a hungover jackass, and it’s so hot that you can see the effects in the air. Unwind with some sad, folksy, chill tunes on this fine day.

We hit 10,000 followers a couple of days ago, and from all of us here at Something for the Ladies, thank you for helping to make it an amazing, fun project. Personally (and I think most of us probably feel this way), I never imagined in a million years this would ever get as big as it did, and it helps that our readers have made this as amazing as it’s been. We have some of the nicest followers who say the nicest things about the things we write, the tracks we feature, and the mixtapes that we create. Stay simply phenomenal, folks.

Summer, Far Away

Sometimes, you meet someone and things are wonderful for a little while. You take walks in the middle of the night by the lake. You play beer pong and drink whiskey together. You spend hours on your back staring at white walls and ceilings while talking about nothing. You run across black ice by empty streets.

After some time, things stop being wonderful, and you’re only left wondering why certain sequences of events came to be. Why things stopped suddenly. Why you care less. Why he’s polite but cold.

Sometimes things just don’t work out. Nobody did anything wrong. Time passes, and people find each other; people break apart. And there’s nothing you can do but to keep on going until things change again. The people in the past have a profound impact on our present and our future, but we’ll keep going. Life always happens.
