City and Colour - “The Girl”

I know this probably isn’t a new song or band to most of you guys, but in the midst of my companions pop parade, it’s my job to bring you soothing folk melodies. City and Colour is actually a one man show, permeating America from the northern border. He has a newer album out than this one, but this is such a great song that I had to remind everyone it exists.

Gotye feat. Kimbra - “Somebody That I Used To Know”

Honestly, I haven’t listened to much Gotye, but this second single off Gotye’s upcoming album, Making Mirrors, is fantastic. I don’t have much to say about it, but its haunting chorus is completely stuck in my head. The album drops August 19th.

Fleet Foxes - “Montezuma”

As the Official STFL Folk Music Connoisseur, I know that I have responsibilities to you, the listeners, to bring you delicious sounds in a easy and timely manner. But here I must admit my own failing. I’ve had Helplessness Blues since the day it came out, and have not said a single word about it here. Please listen to the above track as an apology, from me to you. Also, buy the whole album. I’m sure you’ve all read on Pitchfork by now about how deep and dark it is, but I prefer to say that it’s simply great to listen to.
