Carousel - “Where Have You Gone”
Normally, I shy away from the spring and summer seasons and stay indoors. I loathe the heat and the humidity that always make me wonder how I ended up in the state of Texas. However, it seems as though these warmer months make for the perfect backdrop for airy tunes such as this one. “Where Have You Gone” takes me back to long, summer nights spent chasing fireflies and living in my own little world filled with, well, love. I guess spring and summer aren’t so bad after all.

Excuse my blatant display of ignorance concerning actual music theory, but check out the sexy arpeggios going on at the beginning of this new Beach House offering. They give way to lush, gorgeous voices that sound so friendly and intimate. After a certain point, I stop trying to describe the song. I give in to the ebb and flow. I listen instead of hear. Give it a try.

Cut up vocals, a seductive bass line, and booty-shakin’ beats all caught my attention as I listened to this new, seven minute offering from Hot Chip. These electro-pop musicians from the UK are releasing their fifth album, In Our Heads, in June. This summer is shaping up to be quite the sexy one. Where all my fly folk at?

Sweet, soft crooning — just want I needed on this lazy March day. What a lovely little mid-day tune. Whoever this Ramona is, she’s certainly loved beyond compare.

Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux, and Serengeti have teamed up to form, well, s / s / s. Please don’t ask me how to pronounce that. Anyway, this bizarre track is straight off of their upcoming EP. I’m thoroughly intrigued, for the these three musicians with very different sensibilities seem to have forged beauty from utter chaos. Beak & Claw drops March 20th. Keep your ears and your mind wide open.
