Kissing The Lipless
For my fifteenth birthday, my music hipster aunt sent me my very first mixtape. Among the Modest Mice and the Jesuses & Mary Chains, one band in particular caught on to my aural senses almost immediately: The Shins. At that point I had only just started getting into music and I had heard about them, but this mixtape still changed them for me from “just that band” to a nonstop obsession. Years later, I reminisce with Chutes Too Narrow, whose opening couldn’t be more perfect than this song.
