Last night, the Billboard Music Awards had a tribute to Beyoncé which featured people like Michelle Obama and Bono talking about how awesome and amazing she is. At the time I thought, “Isn’t Beyoncé a little too…alive for them to be doing a tribute to her?” But watch the absurdity that is this music video and understand that Beyoncé is the perfect person for Billboard’s obsession with popular music. As a woman who’s been in the public eye (and I mean really in it, none of this Britney Spears “comeback” stuff needed) for over ten years, Beyoncé is one fierce bitch who keeps reinventing herself in a really fantastically good way. This song (which heavily samples Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor”) and this music video can only be described as pure spectacle in a way that other pop stars wish they could be.
