The keyword here is maturity. Like their British twee counterparts Los Campesinos!, the NYC based The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have matured their sound, opting for harder guitars, cleaner beats, and words with less hidden meanings as time has gone on. The result is a triumph on many levels: better hooks, more layered songs, and less contrived, “trying-too-hard” lyrics. As our loyal readers might have noticed, I am all about the progression of sound, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are definitely headed in the right direction.

Though the official release date is March 29th, the new album is streaming in full on the band’s website now.
