Walk A Lonely Road
I love a good pop song at times, but other times I can’t stand the genre. Coldplay, Ben Folds, and others have seen a lot of playtime and a lot of downtime in my library due to this mood-dependent dichotomy. I don’t think I can ever hate Stephin Merritt’s songwriting, however, mostly because he situates his work on the very fringe of pop’s spectrum, flitting back and forth constantly, like a pendulum. It’s like his music is the universal solvent to my moodswings.
