Mediocrity is condemned to be subject to the fickle bitch of context. Sometimes it’s suitable for the moment, and at other times it is incredibly disappointing. This is evident in Arctic Monkeys’ records. Some hazy cloud drifts over their redundant melodies and brutally removes their songs from emotion. However, much like Franz Ferdinand’s own comeback, Humbug’s appearance in stores today appears to break that curse. But of course, it may just be that fickle bitch playing with perception once again.
