Duke Ellington – “Isfahan”

Duke Ellington’s 1966 album Far East Suite is dreamy and exotic, but not exclusively eastern. In fact, the album is inspired by a tour he and his band took across south-western Asia and India. The inspiration is evident in some songs, but they all still possess that intoxicating musical tone that is so unique to the genre that Ellington called “American Music.” Duke Ellington is the most recorded jazz composer in history, and wrote over one thousand songs in his career. The second most recorded jazz composer was Thelonious Monk, who wrote only seventy songs.
