Brad Mehldau - “Paranoid Android”
Mr. Mehldau’s work draws influence from the rest of the musical universe, often covering (“jazzifying?”) songs by other performers (his favorites being Radiohead and The Beatles). You’ve probably already guessed that if you’ve hit the play button above or recognized the title. This is his jazz arrangement of Radiohead’s Paranoid Android, and after the first couple bars, like all good jazz songs, it deconstructs itself and becomes something completely different — several times over. The nine minute contemplation of the original song’s chords and mood is nothing short of beautiful.
It’s jazz week at Something For The Ladies. Do you have a jazz piece that has earned a special place in your heart? Tell us about it.
