Slow Club - “Where I’m Waking”
Rebecca Taylor from Slow Club makes it extremely well known how much she loves The-Dream and Beyoncé. She also makes it extremely well known how much she hates the “twee” label that was bestowed upon her band after their debut album Yeah So. Slow Club’s not the only band to openly reject the descriptor of twee bestowed upon them earlier on in their careers; Los Campesinos! and This Many Boyfriends have made it violently clear that they don’t really like it either. Though not so explicit, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart seemed to move towards more pop with their excellent sophomore album Belong.
Slow Club’s done the same with Paradise, moving towards a fuller, darker, more poppy sound that Terius Nash would be proud of. Hopefully Slow Club comes to the United States soon (specifically Chicago), but if you’re in the UK, see them on tour now. The rest of us will just have to listen to Paradise, out now, on repeat like we listened to “Countdown”.
